Malt was used as a basis for fermentation and to add flavour and nutrients in beverages and foods. It is produced by cereal grain by allowing partial germination to modify the grain's natural substances. Barley is chiefly used cereal grain to be converted to malt; rye, wheat, rice, and corn are used much less frequently.

 

Barley malt is made by the process called 'malting'. It consists of three phases. First phases is the barley washed and soaked in water to start the steeping process. Second phase is the actual sprouting or 'germination' of the barley grains.  Third phase is the drying of the sprouted grains (green malt). The phases including loading the grain for steeping, germination boxes, and kilning. The production operators will regulates the temperature of the heated air that dries and roasts the grain, and adjusts the duration of the different operations throughout the malting process. The production operator will also monitors the progress of the transformation of the grain into malt.
